PART 1 CHEVY C10 FRONT SHOCK TOWERS | Fabricating and TIG Welding New Shock Mounts

In this video I start on the fabrication of a pair of shock towers for my 1977 Chevrolet squarebody C10. I’m using 1/4″ plate steel for the shock brackets along with grade 8 hardware. The shock towers are entirely TIG welded.

This truck as a static 5″ front drop using stock cut coil springs and 2.5″ drop spindles from Chassis Tech. The drop shocks are from CPP. I feel that the drop shocks are a little too stiff and I would like to replace them with some dampers that are a little softer. To achieve this I need to fabricate the shock extenders to accommodate a longer set of shocks. Also, I have future plans to put this truck on air suspension. With a bagged suspension, I will need shocks absorbers that have a little more suspension travel.
